Gadkari says ‘relieved and happy’ after rescue of 41 workers from Silkyara tunnel
New Delhi: Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday said he is “relieved and happy” as all 41 trapped workers have been rescued from the collapsed Silkyara tunnel in Uttarakhand.
“I am completely relieved and happy as 41 trapped laborers in the Silkyara Tunnel Collapse have been successfully rescued,” Gadkari said in a post on X.
The 41 workers, who were trapped in the tunnel since November 12, were rescued on Tuesday evening.
The Road Transport and Highways Minister said that the government will do a safety audit of all under-construction tunnels.
“This was a well-coordinated effort by multiple agencies, marking one of the most significant rescue operations in recent years. Various departments and agencies complemented each other despite facing numerous challenges,” Gadkari said.
He expressed gratitude to each agency and individual involved in this rescue operation as well as deep appreciation for the international rescue experts, administrative officers, and the Uttarakhand government for their swift and effective response.
“I take this opportunity to thank the Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi Ji, who has been constantly monitoring the entire operation and providing guidance and support whenever required. CM Uttarakhand Shri @pushkardhami Ji and my colleague Shri @Gen_VKSingh Ji almost camped there during the operation,” he said.
Gadkari also expressed his gratitude to the officers and engineers of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) for their sincere efforts.
The minister said that the ministry has learnt a lot of lessons from this incident. “We will also do a safety audit of all under-construction tunnels,” he said.
Noting that the Himalayan geology is “fragile”, Gadkari said the ministry will try to find solutions to the problems being faced there.

Despite challenges, efforts on to rescue trapped workers in Uttarakhand: PM Modi
Hyderabad: Despite challenges from nature in the evacuation process of the 41 workers trapped inside a tunnel in Uttarakhand, the government stands firmly to bring them out to safety, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Monday.
Modi prayed for the safe evacuation of the workers who have been trapped in a tunnel in Uttarakhand for the last 15 days at a ‘Koti Deepotsavam’, a religious event of lighting lamps during the Hindu Kartika month, here.
He said the government is making continuous efforts to evacuate the workers safely and as early as possible.
“But, we have to complete this relief and rescue operation with lot of alertness. Nature is continuously giving us challenges in this effort. But, we are standing firm. We are making efforts round-the-clock. We have to pray for the safe evacuation of those workers and to do it as early as possible,” Modi said.
The government and all agencies together are leaving no stone unturned to bring them out safely, he said.
“When we are praying to God today and talk about human welfare, then we have to pray for all those worker brothers who have been trapped inside a tunnel in Uttarakhand for the past two weeks,” he said.
The family members of the workers need to be given courage that the whole country is with them, he said.
He prayed that every lamp lit in the ‘Dev Diwali’ and ‘Koti Deepotsavam’ would bring light in the lives of those trapped workers at the earliest.
It has been 15 days since the 41 workers were trapped inside the Silkyara tunnel after a portion of it collapsed on November 12. The rescue operation was started soon after the incident but the work was delayed due to hurdles in drilling.

I&B ministry enhances sop for foreign film production in India, eyes medium, big projects
Panaji: Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Anurag Thakur on Monday announced enhancing incentive for production of foreign movies in the country, hiking the limit for reimbursement of expenses incurred in the country as he inaugurated the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa.
The move was aimed at attracting medium and big budget international film projects to India, he said while addressing a star-studded gathering after opening the 54th edition of IFFI at Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium near here.
The paradigm shift in incentivizing film production serves as a testimony to India’s commitment and support for artistic expression and reinforces its position as a preferred destination for cinematic endeavours, Thakur said.
The minister said last year at the Cannes Film Festival, the central government introduced an incentive scheme for production of foreign films in India, offering reimbursement of up to 30 per cent of their expenses incurred in the country, capped at Rs 2.5 crore.
The scheme was announced with an aim to make India a favourite destination for foreign film makers.
“We realised that given India’s size and vast potential, there was a need for higher incentive to attract medium and big budget international projects. Today, I am pleased to announce an increase in the incentive for foreign film production in India,” Thakur said.
“The maximum incentive would be now up to 40 per cent of the expenditure incurred with a raised limit of Rs 30 crore, exceeding USD 3.5 million. You can also get additional 5 per cent bonus for significant Indian content,” he added.
Speaking further, Thakur said the Government of India has taken several measures in the recent past to augment the media and entertainment sector.
“Recently, the Cinematograph Act, which stands as the Cinematograph (Amendment) Bill, 2023, received approval from both Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha,” he said.
The legislation not only broadens the legal framework, shifting its focus beyond censorship to encompassing the copyright protection, but also introduces rigorous measures against piracy, stated the minister.
“Only few countries have done this (bring a law like Cinematograph Act). This has been done under the leadership of (Prime Minister) Narendra Modi,” Thakur added.
Thakur lit the traditional lamp in presence of Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting L Murgan and Union minister Shripad Naik, among others, to mark the inauguration of the IFFI.
Actors Madhuri Dixit, Shahid Kapoor, Pankaj Tripathi, Sunny Deol and filmmaker Karan Johar were present for the opening ceremony of the nine-day festival being held at different venues in the coastal state.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Minister Sawant welcomed the film fraternity for the event and said grand celebration of cinema in the picturesque state of Goa promises to be a mesmerizing journey.
“The cinema has power to evoke multitude of emotions, inspire minds and challenge the perspectives,” he maintained.
Sawant said the IFFI, over the years, has emerged as a “beacon of cinematic experience” and remarked that this year the festival promises to be different.
“Let us remember that cinema has power to transform lives. It can ignite imagination and broaden horizon around us,” he said.
Sawant said Goa, made the permanent venue of the IFFI in 2004, is a proud host of the festival.
“We are committed to providing all necessary support to make the festival a success. We want to make Goa a hub for filmmaking and the IFFI will help us in promoting that destination,” the CM stated.
Sawant opined the Goan film industry has grown by leaps and bounds over the years and now slowly stepping into the national scene.
“The Konkani cinema has carved a place for itself in the IFFI,” he said.
The Chief Minister said the Entertainment Society of Goa, one of the IFFI organisers, has floated an expression of interest for setting up a film city in the tourist state.
“It is our commitment that we will complete the procedure for this work (film city) a time-bound manner,” Sawant averred.
At the function, Union I&B Minister Thakur honoured Bollywood diva Madhuri Dixit with the ‘Special Recognition for Contribution to Bharatiya Cinema’ award.
Dixit, who started her film journey in mid-1980s, said she has worked with some wonderful directors during her decades-old career.
“I am happy to be here today. Thank you for this beautiful award. In nearly 38 years in the industry, I got to work with wonderful directors and did wonderful films,” Dixit said.
The 56-year-old actor described the IFFI as a platform for expressing creativity.
“Thanks to IFFI organisers for creating this platform. The IFFI is an emotion. People used to come to Goa only for holidays, now they are coming here to watch films,” the actor said.
IFFI is an annual event organized by the National Film Development Corporation of India (NFDC), Union Ministry of I&B, in collaboration with the Goa government through the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) and the Indian film industry.
The festival showcasing an eclectic array of world cinema to the audiences worldwide will kick-start with the international premiere of ‘Catching Dust’, by award-winning British filmmaker Stuart Gatt.
This year, the IFFI has received an overwhelming response, according to an I&B ministry release.
A total of 2,926 entries from 105 countries were received, which is three times more international submissions than last year. During the nine-day festival, more than 270 films will be showcased at four venues across Goa, said the release.
As many as 13 world premieres, 62 Asia premiers and 89 India premieres will be screened during the event.
A total of 32 entries have been received in 10 languages from 15 OTT platforms for Best Web Series (OTT) Award. Fifteen feature films — 12 international and three Indian movies — will compete for the coveted Golden Peacock award this year, said the release.

Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh unit Congress president Kamal Nath on Sunday in a bid to woo the voters tried to present himself in a refreshing avatar, saying he has changed a lot since 2018 (last Assembly elections), and is now a “2023 model”.
Addressing a rally in Datia district, the former Madhya Pradesh chief minister said: “I am no more a 2018 model but of 2023. Our government (in 2018) had waived off loans of 27 lakh farmers. We will do that again this time, and also work towards providing an amount of Rs 1 lakh 1 thousand for the marriage of girls.”
Kamal Nath said the “era of corruption” would also end if the Congress comes to power in the state.
“We will ensure that the youths get employment opportunities,” he said addressing the crowd, while urging the people to vote for the Congress on November 17 to get rid of “corruption and slavery”.
The former chief minister said the upcoming Assembly election is not about any party or person but more about the future of the state as well as that of the youths.
“We will give a support price of Rs 2,600 per quintal for wheat and Rs 2,500 for paddy. Our government will work towards increasing the price to Rs 3,000 per quintal. The unemployed people of the state will be given Rs 1,500 to Rs 3,000 monthly.
“We will also make school education free, and provide Rs 500 per month to students up to Class 8 while Rs 1,000 per month will be given to Class 9 and 10 students. Also, we will give Rs 1,500 per month to children of Class 11 and 12,” Kamal Nath said while addressing the rally.
Kamal Nath also visited Pitambara Shaktipeeth and offered prayers to Maa Pitambara there.
After that, the Congress leader addressed the rally.

Bazarghat fire incident: Hyderabad cops arrest owner of building
Hyderabad: The Nampally police have arrested the owner of the building where ten people lost their lives in a devastating fire incident in Bazaarghat area recently.
Police said, Ramesh Kumar Jaiswal, 53, the prime accused, would deal in chemicals he procured from a distributor in Mumbai and from Mathangi Chemicals in Shad Nagar.
Whenever he received an order for chemicals, he used to get the material from distributors and supply it to his customers the next day. Most of the loads arrived during night time and the accused was storing the load at the stilt of Balaji Residency apartment at Bazaarghat, which was being used as godown.
The residents urged the accused several times not to store the resin drums and cans in the stilt, but the accused did not mend his ways. For his own convenience, the accused always stored the flammable resin drums and cans on the stilts of the building illegally, knowing that the chemical material was putting lives of the residents in danger.
On November 11, the accused received 32 cans of resin chemical, each weighing 35 kgs, from Mathangi Plasticizer Private Limited, Moti Ghanpur Village, Shad Nagar. He stored the it at Balaji Residency.
On November 13, 2023, massive fire erupted from the south side of the Balaji residence, where the accused had stored the resin cans.
This fire might have been ignited by a short circuit, however, the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained by the electricity department, who have inspected the spot. During the investigation, 30 drums and 88 cans of resin were seized and samples were sent to FSL for chemical examination.
Police have seized two DVR’s from the building and sent them to FSL for data retrieval. After receiving the report from FSL, the actual source of ignition of fire will be revealed.

Day 7: New road planned to free trapped Uttarkashi workers
Uttarkashi: With time running out, officials on Saturday began preparations to drill a vertical hole from the top of the hill under which 41 workers have been trapped inside a collapsed tunnel for seven days with limited food and communication.
As the sun slipped behind the mountains and night fell on another day gone by, officials held out the hope that the Border Roads Organisations (BRO) road to create an alternative route to the under-construction Silkyara tunnel would be ready by Sunday afternoon and the rescue mission that had been stalled since Friday could finally resume.
“We are trying to make a vertical track from the top of the tunnel. A point at the top of the tunnel has been identified from where drilling will start soon.
“This track is about 1,000-1,100 metres long. Simultaneously, we are also conducting a survey to know how much time it will take. As per our calculations, the track should be ready by tomorrow afternoon,” BRO’s Major Naman Narula told reporters.
A high-performance drilling machine was brought here from Indore on Saturday to pierce through the rubble of the collapsed tunnel on the Char Dham route and was being assembled before it is deployed to resume drilling, officials at the site said.
The Silkyara tunnel, about 30 km from the district headquarters of Uttarkashi and a seven-hour drive from the Uttarakhand capital Dehradun, is part of the ambitious Char Dham all-weather road project of the central government. It is being constructed under the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL).
The tunnel collapsed around 5.30 am last Sunday. One week on, as the hours ticked by, the desperation of families waiting outside mounted. That rescue operations had been suspended since Friday afternoon when a US-made auger machine deployed to drill and push in pipes through the rubble to prepare an escape passage for the workers developed a snag exacerbated the anxiety.
By the time the drilling was halted, the auger machine had drilled up to 24 metres through the rubble spread over a 60-metre area inside the tunnel.
While families back home and those gathered at the mouth of the tunnel counted the hours, officials waged their own frantic battle against time as they weighed the various options available to them.
“One option is to make a four-six inch long hole which will help in providing essential items to the trapped people. If the conditions are favourable, a three-feet diameter hole will also be made so people will be able to come out. This road is about 900 metres long. Hopefully, the road will be ready by tomorrow morning,” said RS Rao of the Directorate General Border Roads (DGBR).
Four machines have been currently put to work right now and four more are arriving, he added.
A team of officials from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and experts at the site also decided to work simultaneously on five plans to rescue the 41 men.
“The experts were one in their view that rather than working on just one plan we should work at the same time on five plans to reach the trapped workers as early as possible,” Bhaskar Khulbe, former advisor to the prime minister and now OSD in the Uttarakhand government, said at a press conference in Silkyara.
The five plans include drilling from one end to the other on both Silkyara and Barkot sides, vertical drilling from the top of the tunnel and perpendicular drilling, he said.
“Efforts to build a platform to start vertical drilling through the top of the tunnel have begun already,” he said.
The ONGC, RVNL, Satluj Jal Vikas Nigam Ltd, the BRO and the state PWD besides the NHIDCL will be the agencies carrying out different responsibilities to establish early access to the trapped workers, he said.
Khulbe is part of a team that includes Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways Mahmood Ahmed, Deputy Secretary, PMO, Mangesh Ghildiyal, geologist Varun Adhikari and engineering expert Armando Capellan.
Asked about the rescue work being suspended at the tunnel for so long, Khulbe said it was time to look ahead. “We should think of what we can do now. Time is not appropriate to discuss what happened in the past.”
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a meeting with officials at his official residence in Dehradun for an update on the crisis. He expressed the hope that the state-of-the-art machines manufactured in the country and abroad will be successful in rescuing the labourers.
“Under the guidance of the PMO, the state government is busy making all efforts to evacuate labourers trapped inside the tunnel are rescued. We hope we will soon succeed in the mission,” he said.
“The government stands with the families of workers who are trapped. Their safe and timely evacuation is our priority,” Dhami said.
Notwithstanding government assurances, it was an agonising wait for the families keeping vigil outside, despairing as the hours and days rolled on inexorably.
Their voices are getting weaker, their strength seemingly dimming, family members said after speaking to some of the workers.
Among those waiting was the family of Gabbar Singh Negi. His two brothers, Maharaj Singh and Prem Singh, and son Akash Singh have been camping outside, desperate for any sliver of news that comes their way. The family belongs to Kotdwar in the state.
Maharaj said he spoke to Gabbar through a pipe used for supplying oxygen and his voice sounded very feeble.
“I could not talk to my brother. His voice sounded very weak. He was hardly audible. Rescue work in the tunnel has come to a halt. Those trapped are also short of food and water. We have come to the end of our patience. What more can I say?” Maharaj told PTI.
Their brother Prem said the trapped workers are beginning to lose hope.
“Gabbar said he is alright but his voice is feebler now. They are getting light edibles like chana, kheer and badam. How long can they sustain on this?” Prem asked.
“India has gone digital. They talk about the success of India’s Chandrayan mission but they cannot evacuate our people trapped for around a week.”
The health condition of the men is worsening and his family back home getting increasingly panicky, added Haridwar Sharma, whose younger brother Sushil is among those inside the tunnel.
“All we are getting are assurances from authorities that the trapped labourers will be rescued. It has been nearly a week,” Sharma, who is from Bihar’s Rohtas district, told PTI.
“There is no work going on inside the tunnel. Neither the company nor the government is doing anything,” he added tearfully.
Rescue operations stalled around 2.45 pm on Friday. During the positioning of a fifth pipe, a big cracking sound was heard in the tunnel upon which rescue operation was suspended immediately, a statement from the NHIDCL tasked with the construction of the tunnel said in a statement on Friday night.
The sound created panic among the rescue team. An expert involved with the project warned about the possibility of further collapse in the vicinity. Subsequently, the pipe pushing activity was stopped.
The number of workers inside has been revised from 40 to 41. The NHIDCL, which is constructing the tunnel through Navayuga Engineering Company Ltd, came to know about this discrepancy on Friday.
Deepak Kumar from Muzaffarpur district in Bihar was identified as the 41st person to be stuck in the tunnel.

India calls on Canada to respect Vienna convention on diplomatic relations
New Delhi: India on Thursday called on Canada to provide for a conducive environment in line with provisions of the Vienna convention on diplomatic relations so that its officials can discharge their duties without any hindrance or security concerns.
India’s fresh call to Ottawa came days after certain pro-Khalistani elements in Vancouver attempted to disturb a camp organised by the Indian consulate in that city.
The ties between India and Canada came under severe strain following Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s allegations in September of “potential” involvement of Indian agents in the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.
India strongly rejected the allegations.
“Our High Commission and consulates in Canada regularly organise consular camps. One such camp was organized near Vancouver on November 12 to provide life certificates to pensioners,” External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said during his weekly media briefing.
“The event was held successfully despite attempts by a few radical elements to cause trouble. Our Consul General was not present at that camp,” he said.
“We reiterate the need for nations to respect the Vienna Convention on diplomatic relations so that our diplomats can discharge their diplomatic obligations,” he added.
Asked about reports of an incident near Brampton during Diwali, Bagchi it was sort of an “unrest’ between two groups.
As regards to events that you alluded to near Brampton in Diwali. I think that was more in the nature of unrest between the two groups, he said.
“I don’t think there has been any complaint that our consulate has received… I saw some social media reports. We also understand that the authorities there are looking into that incident,” he said.
Days after Trudeau’s allegations, India temporarily suspended issuance of visas to Canadian citizens and asked Ottawa to downsize its diplomatic presence in the country to ensure parity.
Canada has already withdrawn 41 diplomats and their family members from India. India has resumed some of the visa services.

Bengaluru: Accusing JD(S) state president H D Kumaraswamy of hating the poor, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday said the voters will teach his party as well its ally BJP a lesson in the Lok Sabha elections.

Siddaramaiah said crores of people are benefitting from the guarantee schemes and those celebrating these schemes include the voters of BJP and JD(S).
He even asked Kumaraswamy to go to the villages and talk to the beneficiaries there.
The guarantee schemes are mainly designed to benefit the poor people of the state. It is neither a tax waiver to help the rich, nor is it a loan waiver scheme, Siddaramaiah pointed out.
The Chief Minister took a dig at Kumaraswamy for not speaking against the Centre. Instead, he has made the task of opposing guarantee schemes as his motto, he charged.
“You’re attacking me on a daily basis with false accusations. If criticising me gives you peace of mind, please continue. I can understand your disappointment and frustration after the election defeat,”
Siddaramaiah quipped.
According to the Chief Minister, the entire country is laughing at the hypocrisy of the BJP.
“Until recently, the BJP, which used to make fun of all such schemes, including guarantee schemes, as “freebies’, has included all such “freebies’ in the election manifesto of five states. But now, Kumaraswamy
doesn’t have the guts to question this hypocrisy of the BJP,” Siddaramaiah said.
Guarantee schemes were part of the Congress party’s election manifesto and people gave his party the mandate based on the promises, he added.
Siddaramaiah warned Kumaraswamy for speaking against the guarantees.
“If you continue to oppose the guarantee schemes, the wise voters of the state will teach both BJP and JDS parties a lesson in the next Lok Sabha elections as well,” he said.
Kumaraswamy has been critical of the Congress government saying that its guarantees are not being implemented in toto and are flawed.

Biden dismisses poll surveys showing him trailing behind Trump
Washington: US President Joe Biden has dismissed poll surveys predicting he was trailing behind his predecessor Donald Trump in five swing states sayin,g “I am beating Trump in eight of the ten states polled so far”.
Biden told reporters here: “You don’t read the polls. Ten polls, eight of them, I’m beating him (Trump) in those states – eight of them.”
Biden said as he prepared to leave for Illinois to talk to United Auto Workers there.
Biden dismissed questions about polling – actually, a sobering New York Times/Siena College poll released Sunday that showed the president trailing GOP front-runner Donald Trump in five of six battleground states, according to US News.
Asked if he thought he was trailing in battleground states Arizona, Georgia, Nevada, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin, the President said: “No, I don’t.”
Biden campaign operatives say they expect a close race next year and are preparing for it.
And while some Democrats — notably, most recently, former Barack Obama senior adviser David Axelrod — have suggested Biden step aside, the President’s team says history shows Biden should not be underestimated.
Pollsters across both aisles have been debating if poll surveys showing Biden trailing behind Trump in five swing states showed the Democrat’s agenda of abortion rights that won them three key states — Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio — were two different issues.
In the 2020 primary season, many poll pundits dismissed Biden’s chances.
Democrats are having a great year at the polls themselves, with Tuesday’s 0ff-year elections showing a near sweep of key elections capping a year when the party’s candidates have well over performed in state and local races and won every state referendum on abortion rights, media reports said .
“I do think at some point this is a Biden problem, not a Democratic Party problem,” said GOP strategist Jason Cabel Roe, former executive director of the Michigan Republican Party.
Despite Democratic wins this year and last year, “I do think he’s vulnerable – absolutely,” Roe adds.
Democrats have deftly used abortion rights to win not only a referendum on the issue in Ohio but the Kentucky governor’s race and key state legislative seats as well.
Republicans’ troubles arise from voter anger – especially among women, who make up the majority of voters – over the Supreme Court ruling in Dobbs vs Jackson Women’s Health Organization that took away the guaranteed right to an abortion in reversing the Roe vs Wade case verdict which held good for several years, reports said.

Pakistan: Justice (retd.) Hussain takes oath as caretaker CM of KP
Peshawar: Justice (retd.) Arshad Hussain was on Sunday sworn in as the interim chief minister of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, a day after caretaker chief minister Muhammad Azam Khan died following a brief illness.
Governor Haji Ghulam Ali administered oath to Hussain at a ceremony in Peshawar.
Hussain, who was appointed as the law minister in the interim provincial cabinet earlier this year, has served as the chief justice of the Supreme Appellate Court of Gilgit Baltistan.
Earlier, his name was finalised for the post at a meeting here called by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Ali.
Ali invited the leader of the house, former chief minister Mehmud Khan, and the ex-leader of Opposition of the dissolved assembly Akram Khan Durrani to seek a consensus candidate for the caretaker chief minister.
The meeting agreed on Hussain’s name, which was proposed by Durrani and supported by Khan. The name was subsequently sent to the KP governor, who approved it.
The post fell vacant after the interim chief minister died on Saturday due to a heart problem at a local hospital here.
The provincial assemblies of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab were dissolved in January this year by jailed former prime minister Imran Khan to pressurise the then federal government for early general elections. The general elections will be held on February 8, 2024, according to the Election Commission of Pakistan.
The development comes as Pakistan aims to hold fair and transparent general elections early next year.

SC refuses to interfere with HC’s interim order staying proceedings against Shivakumar
New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday refused to interfere with the Karnataka High Court interim order staying proceedings against Congress leader DK Shivakumar in a disproportionate assets case.
A bench of Justices Bela M Trivedi and Satish Chandra Sharma refused to interfere with the Karanataka HC order, observing it was interim in nature.
“The impugned order being interim in nature, we are not inclined to interfere with the same, more, particularly when the petitioner, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), has already filed an application for vacation of the stay granted in the impugned order passed by the High Court,” the court said.
However, the top court requested that the High Court may hear and dispose of the application filed by the CBI seeking vacation of stay and the appeal pending before it as expeditiously as possible, preferably within two weeks.
“The special leave petition stands disposed of accordingly,” the court said.
The CBI has filed an appeal against the Karnataka High Court order dated June 12 and sought to stay on the investigation in the disproportionate assets case. Additional Solicitor General SV Raju, appearing for CBI, urged the bench to vacate the stay.
The CBI is probing a case against Shivakumar for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Earlier, Income Tax conducted a search against him.

Mizoram: Will protect your culture, traditions, that’s my guarantee, says Rahul
New Delhi: Former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday urged the people of Mizoram to vote for his party and said it was his guarantee that their culture, language and traditions will be protected.
Assembly polls will be held in Mizoram on Tuesday. Over 8.57 lakh voters of the state will decide the electoral fate of 174 candidates amid tight security arrangements.
In a post on ‘X’, Gandhi said, “To my brothers and sisters of Mizoram, when you go out to vote tomorrow, vote for Congress.”
“We will protect your culture, language and traditions – That is my guarantee,” he said and shared a video montage of his recent visit to Mizoram and also former Congress president Sonia Gandhi’s recent video appeal to the people of the state to vote for the Congress.
Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi last Wednesday had appealed to the people of Mizoram to elect her party in the November 7 assembly polls, saying this is no time for experiments and a vote for the Congress is one for peace, progress and prosperity in the northeastern state.
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday appealed to the people in Mizoram to vote for his party, saying while the Congress had helped bring peace and stability to the state, the BJP and the RSS were “hell-bent on destroying” the Mizo culture and its way of life.

Delhi remains gas chamber with AQI in ‘severe’ category
New Delhi: In yet another smoggy day, the air quality in Delhi-NCR continued to remain in the ‘severe’ category on Saturday with the overall Air Quality Index at 410.
In the national capital, the AQI at Anand Vihar remained in the ‘severe’ category with PM 10 at 454 and PM 2.5 at 431. The NO2 was recorded at 97 and CO at 101 under ‘moderate’ category, as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
At Bawana, the PM 2.5 reached 464 under ‘severe’ category, while PM 10 was at 466, also under ‘severe’ category. The CO was recorded at 110, under ‘moderate’ category.
The station at Delhi Technical University (DTU) recorded PM 10 at 317 (‘very poor’), while PM 2.5 was at 249 (‘poor’) and CO at 70, while NO2 was at 79, both under ‘satisfactory’ category.
The air quality at the IGI Airport area was in ‘severe’ category with PM 2.5 at 483 and PM 10 at 463, while the CO reached 108 (‘moderate’) and NO2 touched 61 (‘satisfactory’).
The PM 2.5 at ITO was recorded at 373, putting it in the ‘very poor’ category, while PM 10 reached 230, placing it under ‘poor’ category. The NO2 was at 252 (‘poor’) and CO was recorded at 144 (‘moderate’) on Saturday.
At Lodhi Road, the AQI with PM 2.5 concentration was at 415 under ‘severe’ category, while PM 10 was at 419, also under ‘severe’ category.
